Polish "Solidarnosc" Wall Information Plaque

This section of brick wall is the symbol of the Gdańsk workers strife to begin the end of the communist regimes in Eastern Europe. It is a gift of the Sejm, the Polish parliament to the German Bundestag. This section is a part of that wall on which Lech Walesa climbed on 14 August 1980 to organize the strike which led to the founding of the Solidarnosc trade union. The Solidarnosc received wide solidarity in Poland and abroad, especially in Germany. It became a popular movement that successfully opposed the 1981 imposed martial law, continued the process of democratization in Poland in transition and thus contributed to overcome the division of Europe and the fall of the wall in Berlin was born.
